Using verb "To want" in Gujarati

In English we say, “I want mango”. It can also be said as “Mango is wanted to me”. Gujarati sentence structure is similar to second way.

We have already seen how preposition "To" is used with proper nouns & pronouns.( http://learn-gujarati-from-english.blogspot.in/2013/11/preposition-to-in-gujarati.htmle.g તેને( tene),સીતાને (sItAne) etc.
Using that concept you can create such sentences for third person pronouns and proper nouns.

For first and second persons, different forms are used as mentioned below :-

"To want" in English is "
જોતું હોવું"(joituM hovuM) In Gujarati. 
Form of "જોતું હોવું" is created as per gender and multiplicity of object that is needed and corresponding tense.


Present tense :-
Positive sentences
Suffix for third person singular and plural is
(e). So In present tense you use જોઇએ(joie) or જોઇએ છે(joie Che) to indicate you want something.
I want clothes -> મારે કપડાં જોઇએ/જોઇએ છે (mare kapaDAM joie/joie Che)
You want laptop -> તારે લેપટોપ જોઇએ/જોઇએ છે (tAre lepaTop joie/joie Che)
He wants a toy -> એને રમકડું જોઇએ/જોઇએ છે  ( ene ramakaDuM joie/joie Che)


Negative sentences
As seen the related lesson, verb in negative sentence is formed as per gender and multiplicity of object.
Masculine singular         જોઇતો નથી  (joito nathI) / નથી  જોઇતો (nathI  joito)
Feminine singular/plural જોઇતી નથી  (joitI nathI) / નથી  જોઇતી (nathI  joitI)
Neuter singular             જોઇતું નથી  (joituM nathI) /  નથી   જોઇતું (nathI joituM)
Masculine Plural            જોઇતા નથી  (joitA nathI) /  નથી જોઇતા (nathI  joitA)
Neuter Plural                જોઇતાં નથી  (joitAM nathI) /  નથી જોઇતાં (nathI  joitAM)


I do not want clothes -> મારે કપડાં જોઇતાં નથી/નથી જોઇતાં  (mare kapaDAM joitAM nathI / nathI  joitAM)
You do not  want laptop -> તારે લેપટોપ જોઇતું નથી/નથી જોઇતું
 (tAre  lepaTop joituM nathI / nathI joituM)
He does not want mango -> એને કેરી જોઇતી નથી  / નથી  જોઇતી ( ene kerI joitI nathI/ nathI  joitI)


Future tense
Positive sentences
Suffix for third person singular and plural is શે(she)
In Future positive sentence we use જોઇશે(joishe)  
I will want clothes -> મારે કપડાં જોઇશે (mAre  kapaDAM joishe)
You will want laptop -> તારે લેપટોપ જોઇશે (tAre lepaTop joishe)
He will want a toy -> એને રમક્ડું જોઇશે  ( ene ramakDuM joishe)

Negative sentences
As seen before adding નહિં(nahiM) will make negative sentence in future tense.
I will not want clothes -> મારે કપડાં જોઇશે નહિં (mAre  kapaDAM  joishe nahiM)
You will not  want laptop -> તારે લેપટોપ  જોઇશે નહિં (tAre lepaTop   joishe nahiM)
He will not want a toy -> એને રમક્ડું  જોઇશે નહિં ( ene ramakDuM  joishe nahiM)


Past tense
Positive sentences
In past tense, forms are as follows
Masculine Singular            જોઇતો હતો   (joito hato)
Feminine Singular/plural    જોઇતી હતી  (joitI hatI)
Neuter Singular                જોઇતું હતું  (joituM hatuM)
Masculine plural               જોઇતા હતા (joitA hatA)
Neuter plural                   જોઇતાં હતાં (joitAM hatAM)

I wanted a laptop -> મારે લેપટોપ જોઇતું હતું  (mAre  lepaTop joituM hatuM)
You wanted a cake -> તારે કેક જોઇતી હતી  (tAre kek joitI hatI)
She wanted a friend -> તેને એક મિત્ર જોઇતો હતો   (tene ek mitr joito hato )
Sita wanted a deer -> સીતાને હરણ જોઇતું હતું ( sItAne haraN joituM hatuM )

Negative sentences
As learnt in corresponding lesson, adding (na) before verb will make it negative OR We can use combined form.

Masculine Singular              જોઇતો હતો / નહોતો  (joito na hato / nahoto)
Feminine Singular/plural      જોઇતી હતી / નહોતી (joitI na hatI / nahotI)
Neuter Singular                   જોઇતું હતું / નહોતું  (joituM na hatuM/ nahotuM)
Masculine plural                  જોઇતા ન હતા/નહોતા (joitA na hatA/nahotA)
Neuter Plural                      જોઇતાં હતાં / નહોતાં  (joitAM na hatAM / nahotAM )


I did not want a laptop -> મારે લેપટોપ જોઇતું હતું / નહોતું  (mAre lepaTop joituM na hatuM/ nahotuM)
You did not want a cake -> તારે કેક જોઇતી  હતી / નહોતી (tAre kek joitI na hatI / nahotI)
She did not want a friend -> તેને એક મિત્ર જોઇતો હતો / નહોતો  (tene ek mitr joito na hato / nahoto)
