In English we use verb “should” to indicate the desired behavior.
e.g. “He should go to school”; “You should take medicine”; “They should not have done this” etc.

In Gujarati sentence formation is :-

Form of subject with suffix એ(e)
object
Main verb + form of વો(vo) as per gender and multiplicity of object
form of  “જોઇતું હોવું”(joituM hovuM) as per object and tense
મારે   (mAre )
કેરી(kerI)
ખાવી (khAvI )જોઇએ છે (joie Che)

As you would have guessed, form of વો(vo) are :-

Masculine singular
વો  (vo)
Feminine Singular/ Plural
વી  (vI)
Neuter Singular
વું  (vuM)
Masculine plural
વા  (vA)
Neuter plural
વાં  (vAM)

So these forms follow the pattern discussed in lesson
ઓ-ઈ-ઉં-આ-ઈ-આં (o-I-uM-A-I-AM ) યો-ઈ-યું-યા-ઈ-યાં ( yo-I-yuM-yA-I-yAM ) rule

Form of subject with suffix એ(e)

Pronoun in English
Pronoun in Gujarati
Special form to be used with suffix એ(e)
I
હું
મારે   (mAre )
we
અમે
અમારે   (amAre )
we ( listenr including)
આપણે
પણે  (ApaNe)
You (singular)
તું
તારે   (tAre )
You (plural)
તમે
તમારે  (tamAre)
He /She /It
(when person or thing is near )
/ This (m./f/n.)
આણે(ANe)

He /She /It
(when person or thing is far )
/ That (m./f./n.)

તે
એણે(eNe)

તેણે (teNe)
These (for person )

Those (for person )

They (for person )

તેઓ
આમણે (AmaNe)

એમણે (emaNe)

તેમણે (temaNe)/
તેઓએ (teoe)
They / Those / These (for nonliving thing)
એ
એમણે (emaNe)

If object is not present then we will consider it as neuter singular.
In present tense we omit છે(Che). So instead of જોઇએ છે(joie Che) we just say
જોઇએ (joie)
e.g.
I should eat mango  -> મારે કેરી ખાવી જોઇએ (mAre kerI khAvI joie )

You should eat fruit -> તારે ફળ ખાવું જોઇએ  (tAre phaL khAvuM joie )

He should have sung -> એણે ગાવું જોઇતું હતું  (eNe gAvuM joituM hatuM )

She should have danced -> તેણે નાચવું જોઇતું હતું  (teNe nAchavuM joituM hatuM )

Kaushik should say a story -> કૌશિકે કથા કહેવી જોઇએ (kaushike kathA kahevI joie)

Negative sentences
In simple present tense create negative sentence by :-
adding નહીં/નહી after જોઈએ  OR   adding ન before main verb.
Second way is more natural.

Examples :-
I should eat mango  -> મારે કેરી ખાવી જોઇએ (mAre kerI khAvI joie)
I should not eat mango  ->
મારે કેરી ખાવી જોઇએ નહીં (mAre kerI khAvI joie nahIM)
OR
મારે કેરી ન ખાવી જોઈએ. (mAre kerI na khAvI joie)

You should eat fruit -> તારે ફળ ખાવું જોઇએ (tAre phaL khAvuM joie )
You should not eat fruit ->
તારે ફળ ખાવું જોઇએ નહીં (tAre phaL khAvuM joie nahIM)
OR
તારે ફળ ન ખાવું જોઈએ. (tAre phaL na khAvuM joie )

Kaushik should say a story -> કૌશિકે કથા કહેવી જોઇએ (kaushike kathA kahevI joie )
Kaushik should not say a story ->
કૌશિકે કથા કહેવી જોઇએ નહીં (kaushike kathA kahevI joie nahIM)
OR
કૌશિકે કથા ન કહેવી જોઈએ. (kaushike kathA na kahevI joie)

In present perfect tense use negative form of verb હોવું. Generally sequence of verb and supportive verb is interchanged

Examples :-
He should have sung -> એણે ગાવું જોઇતું હતું (eNe gAvuM joituM hatuM )
He should not have sung ->
એણે ગાવું જોઇતું નહોતું (eNe gAvuM joituM nahotuM )
OR
એણે ગાવું નહોતું જોઈતું. (eNe gAvuM nahotuM joituM)

She should have danced -> તેણે નાચવું જોઇતું હતું (teNe nAchavuM joituM hatuM )
She should not have danced ->
તેણે નાચવું જોઇતું નહોતું (teNe nAchavuM joituM nahotuM)
OR
તેણે નાચવું નહોતું જોઈતું. (teNe nAchavuM nahotuM joituM )

She should have eaten chutney -> તેણે ચટણી ખાવી જોઇતી હતી (teNe chaTaNI khAvI joitI hatI )
She should not have eaten chutney ->
તેણે ચટણી ખાવી જોઇતી નહોતી (teNe chaTaNI khAvI joitI nahotI )
OR
તેણે ચટણી નહોતી ખાવી જોઈતી. (teNe chaTaNI khAvI nahotI joitI )
