In Gujarati “To Like” i.e. “To be fond of” is ગમવું (gamavuM)
In English we say :-
I like mango.
She likes dancing.
Here verb "To like" is formed according to subject/doer of action. But in Gujarati verb is formed as per object which is liked.
Also the form of કર્તા(kartA) with preposition "To" is used.
Something like saying “Mango is liked by me”. Example will me it clear.
Below I have given examples in different tenses and negative sentences as well
I like mango :- મને કેરી ગમે છે (mane kerI game Che )
Here, કર્તા(kartA) is "I" and its form with preposition "to" is મને (mane).
In present tense third person singular form is ગમે છે(game Che).
Similarly, see other examples-

Kaushik liked that girl :-કૌશિકને એ છોકરી ગમી ( kaushikane e ChokarI gamI )
Kaushik did not like that girl :-કૌશિકને એ છોકરી નથી ગમી ( kaushikane e ChokarI nathI gamI )
They will like lunch :- તેમને જમણ ગમશે (temane jamaN gamashe)
They will not like lunch :- તેમને જમણ ગમશે નહિં (temane jamaN gamashe nahiM)
In Gujarati પસંદ(pasaMd ) is adjective to indicate liking.
In Gujarati પસંદ(pasaMd ) is adjective to indicate liking.
So Sometimes instead of ગમવું (gamavuM) we can use phrase પસંદ છે(pasaMd Che) , પસંદ કરવું (pasaMd karavuM) , પસંદ થવું (pasaMd thavuM) etc.
e.g.
I like mango :- મને કેરી પસંદ છે (mane kerI pasaMd Che )
She likes dancing :-એને નાચવું પસંદ છે ( ene nAchavuM pasaMd Che )
Using "To Like" with other verbs.
Here form of main verb is prepared as per gender and multiplicity of object.
As expected, suffixes are :-
masculine singular વો (vo)
feminine singular/plural વી ( vI )
neuter singular વું ( vuM )
masculine plural વા (vA)
neuter plural વાં (vAM)
If noun is not present/ not needed or unknown then suffix for neuter singular i.e. વું ( vuM ) will be used.

Here form of main verb is prepared as per gender and multiplicity of object.

I like to eat mango -> મને કેરી ખાવી ગમે છે (mane kerI khAvI game Che)
I like to eat pickle -> મને અથાણું ખાવું ગમે છે (mane athANuM khAvuM game Che)
I like to eat DhaiWadas -> મને દહિવડા ખાવાં ગમે છે (mane dahivaDA khAvAM game Che)
He will like to watch movie -> એને સિનેમા જોવું ગમશે (ene sinemA jovuM gamashe )
He will like to watch movies -> એને સિનેમા જોવાં ગમશે (ene sinemA jovAM gamashe )
If noun is not present/ not needed or unknown then suffix for neuter singular i.e. વું ( vuM ) will be used.
She likes to sing -> એને ગાવું ગમે છે (ene gAvuM game Che)
She(polite) likes to walk -> તેમને ચાલવું ગમે છે (temane chAlavuM game Che )
In English we use of verb “Like” to show similarity.
e.g.
Your shirt is like mine.
Her writing style is like a great artist.
In Gujarati, we do NOT use ગમવું (gamavuM) for such sentences. We will learn about such sentences in some other lesson.
