17) As soon as :-  તાં જ"(tAM j)
The suffix "તાં જ"(tAM j)is appended to verb stem

As soon as he came  -> એ આવતાં જ (e AvatAM j)

As soon as she saw  ->  એણે જોતાં જ (eNe jotAM j )

As soon as they become -> તેઓ થતાં જ (teo thatAM j)

18) Once :- ત્યારે (tyAre)

In English we say "Let me know once he comes". In Gujarati we say this as "He comes, at that time, let me know". 

"at that time" is ત્યારે (tyAre)

"Let me know once he comes" -> એ આવે ત્યારે મને કેહજે  (e Ave tyAre mane kehaje )

Once I see your story I will give you review -> "I will see your story, at that time, I will give you review" ->હું તારી કથા જોઈશ ત્યારે પરીક્ષણ આપીશ (huM tArI kathA joIsh tyAre parIkShaN ApIsh)

19) Rather than, Instead of :- 
When using with noun -> કરતાં (nA karatAM)
When using with verb -> "-વાને બદલે(vAne badale )

Rather than surrendering; a soldier will accept death->  શરણ જવાને બદલે સૈનિક મોતનો સ્વીકાર કરશે (sharaN javAne badale sainik motano svIkAr karashe)

I will take coffee rather than tea -> હું ચા કરતાં કોફી લઈશ (huM chA karatAM kophI laIsh)

20) so that :- કે જેથી   ( ke jethI )
I will work hard so that I win -> હું પરીશ્રમ કરીશ કે જેથી હું જીતી જઉં (huM parIshram karIsh ke jethI huM jItI jauM)

We should avoid plastic so that there will be less pollution -> આપણે પ્લાસ્ટિક ટાળવું જોઈએ, જેથી પ્રદૂષણ ઓછું થાય  (ApaNe plAsTika TALavuM joIe, jethI pradUShaN oChuM thAy )

21) Whereas :- જ્યારે(jyAre)
"He cheated me whereas I was helping him". Gujarati sentence is same as saying "He cheated me when I was helping him"

We have already seen such simple sentences. 


22) Whether; Whether ____ or not :- કે નહિં (ke nahiM)
I did not know whether he is going -> એ જશે કે નહિં, મને ખબર નથી (e jashe ke nahiM, mane khabara nathI)

She could not realize whether she should speak or not -> તેણે બોલવું જોઇએ કે નહિં, એ એને નહોતું સમજાયું (teNe bolavuM joie ke nahiM, e ene nahotuM samajAyuM)

23)Otherwise:- નહીતર (nahItar), અન્યથા  (anyathA )
Do this otherwise you will not win :- આ કર નહિતર/અન્યથા તું જીતીશ નહિં  (A kar nahitar/anyathA  tuM jItIsh nahiM )

He should inform me it immediately otherwise I will not come to know :- એણે મને તરત જણાવવું જોઇએ, નહિતર/અન્યથા મને સમજાશે નહિં (eNe mane tarat jaNAvavuM joie, nahitar/anyathA mane samajAshe nahiM)

24) Also, as well  :- પણ (paN) ,  સુદ્ધા (suddhA)
I also ran :- હું પણ/સુદ્ધા દોડ્યો (huM paN/suddhA doDyo)
He will come tomorrow as well:- એ કાલે પણ/સુદ્ધા આવશે (e kAle paN/suddhA Avashe)
